This ancient breed of dog is considered to be the oldest one
which was raised by the Arabs from the Greyhounds. It is also known as the Persian
hound since it is from the hound community of dogs which was used to hunt game
and used its power of sharp sight rather than the smell and is able to run at incredible
speeds of 69 km/hr.

Dogs- “Man’s best friend” have been on the planet since the start of
human existence but then these were actually wolfs accompanying the humans,
which with evolutions of thousands of years turned into dogs. These were
domesticated, socialized, used for hunting
and eventually became an integral part of human societies.
In the past
dogs were mostly used for hunting and protection from wild animals but in today’s
world, the total number of dog breeds in the world is more than 400 most of which
have been developed from the ancient breeds of dogs and through there selective
breeding and artificial mutation, these have been developed into working, sports, game hunting and show quality
clans.

Breeds such as Pugs, Shih Tzu, poodles, and other dog breeds were
purely bred for show quality and companionships while breeds such as german
shepherds, golden retrievers, spaniels were bred for search and rescue, protection
, therapy dogs, and other work operations.
Dog Breeds today though evolved
from their ancestors, are totally different and have become an important part
of human society. But in the past, these used to live in packs which were
ruled by an alpha male and the alpha had the dominance over the entire pack of
dogs.
Although there is not a lot of information regarding the first few breeds of dog which existed on
the planet but with the help of ancient writings and scribings, it can be
concluded that these were the first few ancient breeds if dogs that existed on
the planet.

This is one of the oldest breeds of dogs which is supposed to
be originated in the Congo region of the African continent. These are popularly known as “barkless dogs” as these tend to produce sound called “baroo” and were used by the people to hunt down small
games and rodents of the villages.

These have a short coat, muscular body, erect ears, curled
tail and an impressive personality. These are considered one of most the most
loyal breeds which are adaptive to extreme temperatures of Africa and are used
by local communities for hunting and protection of the livestock from
predators.

This breed of dog is a loyal one but cannot be trusted off-leash because of its huntings instincts and is not suitable to be kept with
other pets. It has a sleek, narrow muzzle, and a long body that is easy to groom
and needs a lot of exercise as these dogs tend to run most of the day.
Afghan hound
This beautiful breed of dog tends to look like a fashionable and elegant
model is actually considered one of the
oldest breeds of dog that developed in Afghanistan, hence named “Afghan
Hound”. This breed is called “Tazi “ in Afghanistan and is supposed to be
originated in the Pre-Christian Era. These have a long coat that was supposed to
assist these dogs in the deserts and mountains of Afghanistan and keep them
warm in extreme temperatures.
These have a sleek and long body that could run great distances and was used to hunt and keep the leopards at bay. These were assisted by their trainers on horseback and by the help of immense sniffing power, Afghan hounds could search and hunt from long distances and Afghan Hounds excel at their navigation skills. These are difficult to train and should indulge in some of the other activities which will keep them occupied, else they tend to become aggressive.

today. This breed of dog has a thick coat and blue or muti-coloured eyes which
seems to be alike a wolf but certainly, these are one of the best breeds of dog for families if trained in an early stage. These
may become moody or stubborn sometimes but with proper exercise and socialization, these can turn out to be great companions.
Siberian husky can only sustain in cold temperatures and
though people keep them in an air-conditioned environment in a tropical climate, it is not recommended as this is one
of the oldest breed of dog from the Siberian region of Russia where temperatures
can reach as low as -25 degree C.
Lhasa Apso
This breed of dog is probably one of the cutest breeds of dog in the world and is a very popular
breed of toy dog, but do not be misled by its small size as these being one of
the ancient breed of dogs in the world emerging from China was used in Chinese
palaces for guard watch and protection. These used to alarm the security in the
palaces and monasteries in case of an intrusion or unusual event.

Lhasa also called the “Lion Dog” is one of the oldest
breeds of Dog in china as early as 800 BC. These are extremely intelligent and
considered sacred in Chinese culture. These being watchdog tend to be aloof of
the strangers and very loyal and affectionate to their owners. These have a long
coat which protects them from extreme temperatures.
